Overview The International Meeting on "Sustainable City and Creativity: Promoting Creative Urban Initiatives" will be held in Naples on 24-26 September, 2008.
The aim of the meeting is to analyze principles and practices of the creative city for the formulation of policies and recommendations towards the sustainable city.
In particular, the attention will be focused on the following issues:
1. what a creative city is; how the creative city actually works, which are the key features and critical elements conditioning creativity; how ideas turn into urban innovations; the drivers stimulating a city to innovate; the barriers and the constraints;
2. which are the benefits of the creative city in terms of competitiveness, environment, welfare, social stability, quality of life, vitality;
3. which are the key assets, infrastructures and tools required to promote creative processes in cities towards competitive, sustainable and cohesive places, and how public policies can influence the creative city.
The Conference will involve representatives from Universities, Research Centers, International and National Public Institutions, Business Sector and Civil Society.
The Meeting will open with a Round Table. There will be three Plenary Sessions and two Parallel Sessions. A Poster Session is expected too. A final document will be presented as the conference outcome, to be sent to government institutions, city networks and research institutions.
The papers will be compiled in a CD-ROM proceedings. Some papers selected by the Scientific Committee will be published in a book.
If you are interested in presenting theoretical approaches, research results, practical experiences, and best practices about the role of creativity in promoting sustainable urban development, consider submitting an abstract (maximum 300 words in English).

There is no fee for attending the Meeting.

Registration To attend the meeting as a contributor, you need to open an account in the meeting website.
After your registration, an email confirmation containing your user ID and password will be sent to you. The web registration will continue till June 30, 2008. You will be able to modify your profile until this deadline.




Submission In order to submit an abstract and eventually a paper, LOG IN using your user ID and Password, Click "author", and then "Step one of the submission process". Instructions provided in the following pages will guide you through the submission process. Remember to submit your abstract (maximum 300 words in English) before June 30, 2008.
The list of accepted abstracts will be published on this website by July 14, 2008.
The deadline for submitting full papers is September 8, 2008.

Travel You can travel to Naples comfortably by air or train. Capodichino, the Naples airport, is connected to the major European airports by the leading operators. If you are coming from a region with no direct flight to Naples, you can fly to Rome instead. The Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome (Fiumicino) is connected to Capodichino by a number of flights daily. Please, check with you travel agent for convenient connections, or you can take a train to Naples from Fiumicino (you have to change at the Central station of Rome, Roma Termini).
For information on travelling by train in Italy, you may check the website of Italian Railway at Trenitalia.
For moving around Naples and visiting important archeological and natural sites please visit www.inaples.it
In Naples, various types of accommodations are available from a wide range of prices and facilities that you can check with http://en.venere.com/hotels_naples/.
It is summer in September in Naples with temperature ranging between 15 C and 30 C accompanied by occasional rain.
